DESCRIPTION:Now into it’s fourth year\, Holwell Life Drawing manifests as regular Monday & Wednesday evenings classes – both 7-9pm – at Holwell Village Hall – near Hitchin\, Hertfordshire. \nAll levels of ability welcome – from novice to pro. The class is set up to be fairly loose / generic – so that people can work in whatever direction they choose – be it analytical – or something more expressive – in friendly and relaxed environment – with tutor Matt Burden (MA Visual Communication\, Royal College of Art) on hand to offer advice and guidance to people that best suits where they’re at\, and what they’re trying to achieve. \nAges 18 and upward. \nWHAT IS LIFE DRAWING \nLife drawing – drawings made from the living naked human form – can be an important way for anyone with an artistic impulse to exercise and develop their skills – I’ve always likened it to the artistic equivalent of going to the gym. DESCRIPTION:‘Home is Where the Hert is: Stories from Hertfordshire’s British South Asian Community’ is an exhibition and documentary featuring local British South Asians and how they challenged conventions of what it means to be brown in a small English town. Co-produced by Mandeep Kaur Nijjer of Red Media Love and Grewal Twins\, the exhibition delves into the lives of six local residents; Kalvinder\, Usha\, Sandy\, Joban\, Pavenn and Mandeep and their experiences of being raised as second-generation children of immigrants. \n  \nA message from Mandeep\, \n‘We’ve been overwhelmed by the response to the exhibition and so delighted to announce our next residency! For those who missed us at North Herts Museum\, this is your chance to come along and see the free exhibition in all its glory. \nA huge thank you to Holy Saviour Church\, Hitchin\, for supporting this project and volunteering their time to allow visitors access to the church. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring the diverse communities of North Herts together. DESCRIPTION:Back to the Drawing Board: an exhibition of recent work \nNorth Hertfordshire Museum\, Brand Street\, Hitchin \n15 October 2022 – 29 January 2023 \n  \nWhat are the chances of two artists\, living 200 feet away from each other for 30 years\, meeting by chance in 2019? Carl Laubin and James Willis met at a friend’s house and discovered they were painters of local architecture and landscapes and – astonishingly – both working on views of the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich. Now some of their most vibrant and engaging work is on show in their home town\, supported by newly-launched Hitchin Creative – a Community Interest Company. \n  \nThe two neighbours live in the beautiful town of Hitchin in Hertfordshire and immediately struck up an inspiring and creative friendship which connected their paintings\, interest in architecture and their home town. \n  \nAward winning painter Carl shows us landscapes inspired by his lockdown walks in the surrounding countryside alongside his astonishing recreations of the architecture that Nicholas Hawksmoor designed for the Royal Hospital at Greenwich. It is as if you can step back into the mind of this great architect and experience his unbuilt vision for the place. \n  \nJames presents his luminous and atmospheric watercolours of local buildings from unusual perspective viewpoints or in imaginative arrangements known as Capricci. These were inspired by many years working at Sir John Soane’s Museum; another place which connects the two artists. \n  \nA beautifully written and illustrated catalogue accompanies the show\, featuring writing by some of the artists’ friends from the world of architecture\, art history and heritage\, as well as informative and interesting essays by both artists. \n  \nThe free exhibition at North Hertfordshire Museum has been expertly curated by Ros Allwood and her team to present these new pieces for the public to enjoy. It runs from 15 October to 29 January 2023 and the launch includes a celebration of Hitchin Creative. \n  \nAbout Hitchin Creative \nHitchin Creative – since August 2022 a Community Interest Company – is an inclusive and diverse group of creative professionals focused on the town’s rich and varied creative community. In particular\, the company’s ambition is to promote\, support and inspire the creative community to provide more opportunities to advance the prosperity of the sector and the well-being of its community.

SUMMARY:Holwell Life Drawing
DESCRIPTION:Now into it’s fourth year\, Holwell Life Drawing manifests as regular Monday & Wednesday evenings classes – both 7-9pm – at Holwell Village Hall – near Hitchin\, Hertfordshire. \nAll levels of ability welcome – from novice to pro. The class is set up to be fairly loose / generic – so that people can work in whatever direction they choose – be it analytical – or something more expressive – in friendly and relaxed environment – with tutor Matt Burden (MA Visual Communication\, Royal College of Art) on hand to offer advice and guidance to people that best suits where they’re at\, and what they’re trying to achieve. \nAges 18 and upward. \nWHAT IS LIFE DRAWING \nLife drawing – drawings made from the living naked human form – can be an important way for anyone with an artistic impulse to exercise and develop their skills – I’ve always likened it to the artistic equivalent of going to the gym. It’s also really fun. \nTHE CLASS \nWe’ll start with some quicker poses to get everyone warmed up\, before moving to some longer poses so you have some time to explore in more depth\, with a break half way through to share and assess our efforts. \nWHAT YOU NEED TO BRING \nAll you really need to get going is some paper and a pencil or two – it really can be as simple as that – and there’s much to be said for the simplicity of that. \nHowever\, the world is your oyster – so you may want to consider charcoal\, crayons\, pastels – or something weird and wonderful if you’re up for some experimentation – whatever takes your fancy.
